About AYC

A great community of sailing enthusiasts with excellence in sailing skills, racing, and training

The Austin Yacht Club (AYC) is a private sailing club located on the shores of Lake Travis in Austin, Texas. It was founded in 1951 as the Austin Sailing Club and became the Austin Yacht Club in 1969.

Today the Club’s mission is to be a premier sailing club with an emphasis on sailboat racing, sailing education, and sailing activities for the entire family. We pride ourselves in creating a relaxed atmosphere with a warm, friendly, fun, family-oriented activities. We offer a wide variety of social activities and educational clinics for adults and juniors alike. Teams and individuals from AYC have done well over the years and won championships on the state, regional, national, and international level.

AYC’s facilities offers its members fabulous access to the main basin of Lake Travis. We are located on over 30 acres and offer wet and dry slip storage, an inviting pool, a cozy clubhouse, 5 onsite Cabins to Rent and 2 RV Sites to Rent, and 6 Work Area Spaces plus a hoist that can be reserved for maintaining your boat (Members Only).

AYC’s programs and events include junior sail training for our youth and adult sail training. Sailing Clinics offer a wide range of choices from Learn-To-Sail classes to Racing Seminars. AYC hosts Summer Camp and a summer sail training series for kids. Many of these programs are free or discounted for AYC members, and open to non-members. They are taught by members who have world class cruising, racing experience, or US Sailing, or ASA Instructor Certification.

AYC’s annual racing calendar is full of choices and takes seriously our club tradition of being a year-round sport – starting with the first event, The Red Eye Regatta, held on January 1st. Whether it is the Friday Night Beer Can, Wednesday Night Laser/Sunfish, Regular Weekend Series or the annual Club Regattas – like Turnback Canyon or Governor’s Cup – everyone, from new racers to national champions, enjoys testing their sailing skill on beautiful Lake Travis.

Members of AYC are our biggest asset and have a long tradition of volunteerism – this spirit strengthens the sense of community and keeps our cost structure affordable. Whether it is a club work party or one of the Club’s numerous social gatherings – our members are always willing to pitch in to make sure all feel welcome and leave with great memories.
