Message from the Commodore

What an amazing Opening Day!  The week of Opening Day, Covid went to Stage 2, it warmed up, and the wind Gods were kind!  Who could have asked for more!

The brunch was fantastic!  Our Social Team with Molly Isbell Lewis, Lynn Jaeger, Audrey Ravello, Dee Chow, Carolynne Griffin, and their great volunteer committee created a magical event!  The Bloody Mary bar was sponsored by Bob Gross.  Thank you to each one of you!

The ceremony started off with everyone going downstairs for the ceremony, following the talented bag piper, Mike Olsen.  Everything he played sounded magical.  The Sea Scouts marched in using the Bosun whistle and color guards and raised the flag.  Kate Hennig and Julian Rabago sang a spectacular rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. They are so talented!

John Burke gave a wonderful invocation that was personalized for AYC.  He then called out the AYC members who had passed away in 2021.  Harry Polly rang the bell for each lost soul.  Then the bag piper played Amazing Grace.  Such a special time.

Lewis Price then presented the history of AYC with his added personal touches.  It was extremely interesting.  Everyone loved his presentation.

At this point I presented the past commodores, the current Board of Directors and the AYC Staff.

After the ceremony everyone hit the water for a day of racing.  We brought back the tradition of  the 2022 Board running race committee.  Fun was had by all!

I loved the fact that Opening Day ceremony, brunch volunteers, and race committee included individuals from most all of the fleets.  We united to make it a special day.  Thank you!
