Message from the Commodore

I want to thank everyone who attended the first Coffee with the Commodore.  Board meetings are a time to handle club business.  My vision by hosting these coffees was that the coffees would give members a venue to have detailed discussions with myself and another Board member or two each month.  In this get together, we went through some of the items the Board is actively working on.  We had some great conversations and answered some great questions.  Some of the topics we discussed were:

  • Opening Day
  • Purchase of the 420E’s.
  • Sail Training class offerings. (ST Commander will be with us next month)
  • Painting of the Clubhouse (B&G Commander will have more info)
  • We are updating the Covid protocols
  • Vice Commodore, Russ Shermer, updated us on volunteer opportunities and Turnback options.
  • RC Commander, Bob Gross, fielded questions about possible change of racing schedule.
  • Peter Gerard and Gary Jobson visit.

The participants said that they found this format very helpful and would like to continue to have these coffees every month or so.  Look forward to having more of you join us next time!

I would like to thank the AYC Fund for assisting us fund the 420E’s by granting AYC two grants that equal a little over $40,000.  We appreciate your support.  We will be doing additional fundraising in the near future.  The down payment for the purchase of the boats should be placed the end of February.

The AYC Opening Day Celebration and Regatta will be held on March 6, 2022.  We will be holding it in person this year!  We are looking forward to having a great celebration and a fun day of racing.  We are bringing back the tradition where the Board is Race Committee for this regatta.  Hope to see you there!  Don’t forget to RSVP!

Sail Safe!
